My Take on the PKR Elections

I am writing this after having just read my learned friend Art Harun's piece in his blog. Undoubtedly, to him and many other individuals it would seem that the fracas has doomed PKR and has revealed the wolf in sheep's skin. That the irregularities and fiasco enveloping the process has destroyed whatever moral high ground the party is championing for and that PKR is now a goner.

First off let us see what Art Harun and myself mutually agree. We both agree that the intent was sound which was to allow democracy flourish by allowing members themselves to vote for their leaders. But that is about it.

I will start my rebuttal by quoting the noble Qur'an from Surah Al-Baqarah 2:111: "Show you your proof if indeed you are truthful" and I quote from John lubbock: "Our duty is to believe that for which we have sufficient evidence, and to suspend our judgment when we have not" which is a cardinal principle in any system legal or otherwise.

The principle above applies even more so to those select few who are lawyers, including Zaid and Haris Ibrahim.

Allegations of irregularities are evident everywhere, more so when amplified by hostile media. We as enlightened citizens should know better and be guided by not believing everything we hear or see especially in a country such as this. Since when are we so easily duped and swayed by allegations by those who are aggrieved? especially when no proof is produced and submitted to the Jawatankuasa Pemilihan Parti ("JPP")?

Could we demand transparency by resorting to mere conjectures? Is there a problem with the aggrieved to submit proof and AFTER THAT circulate the same to substantiate your arguments?

As for Haris, the hundreds of voting slips he 'revealed' turned out to be outdated voting slips for the previous weeks as the colour code was not for future ballot. Did he accept this explanation? Did he officially file a complaint with the JPP? why didn't the person who revealed the slip reveal himself? what has he to hide?
In saying the above I do acknowledge and accept that no system is perfect. Even Haris and Art Harun knows that. But if there are improprieties, surely we should follow the system and if that fails I would then gladly without delay take up arms against the JPP.

As for Zaid, I like what he says and does, but my vote goes to Azmin who has been there the whole while. It is his turn. But that does not mean I detest Zaid! Zaid chose to contest and he lost, or seem to be losing and then this happens. He was conferred and he agreed for the elections to be made. He was briefed on what was to happen, including the financial limitation that we have suffered for so long. But he was happy for PKR to 'walk the talk' in promoting democracy and chose to contest. and after that he was 'unhappy' with the irregularities.

I am still waiting for his official complaint to JPP. Why not disseminate that Zaid? But still - no official complaint has been made. Kinda weird haa? up to you laa.
