Tonsillectomy: Experience at SDMC

Today I was admitted to Sime Darby Medical Centre (SDMC) previously called Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC). I was diagnosed with acute tonsilitis and will undergo surgery to remove the two inflamed tonsils at 0830hrs tomorrow 10/5/2010.

My attending specialist is Dr. M Hafiz Ali and is a very soft spoken and knowledgable person. His advise was informative and he was most courteous throughout. I was accompanied by my mother who has also scheduled a date to operate on her Eustachian Tube when she returns in December.

So far, and I am currently writing this in Ward 462, I am most impressed with the services, room, advise, covered car park and even food! I have been to many hospitals but this one tops them all. I am very pleased with the nurses and I am not in the least concerned about the surgery tomorrow.

The room is large (I was lucky to have a single-bed room) and is equipped with a safe deposit box, a rather small TV set (but with Astro - I can watch the penultimate game Everton vs Portsmouth!). The Cafe is closed on Sundays which means I cannot bring my children to eat while they accompany me here.

I just returned from Imaging and the speed of technological progress truly astounds me! a few years back I had my foot x-rayed and the din from the clanging of the X-Ray machine was deafening. The one hear was so silent and so quick I had no idea that it was already done!

Anyway I found out that I need not starve myself for tomorrow's surgery and I plan to have dinner outside the hospital with Ibu (who have kindly agreed to stay back to look after me at home) and family. I don't know what to eat but once I see the menu I am sure my mind will make up its mind soon enough.

I truly recommend anyone who is querying the standards of SDMC that the place is excellent and that it is truly a good hospital.
