Visum Ex Silicis: PuteraBatu's Take on PKR in Hulu Selangor

It is done, over and dusted. Congratulations to our courageous team and all the Pakatan Rakyat supporters who have done their best trying to defend P94 Hulu Selangor.

For BN, the victory meant that it was a signal of acceptance by the Rakyat for 1Malaysia, which was proved to be a brainchild of APCO, who initiated 1-ish programmes to various countries such as Israel, Indonesia and now Malaysia.

During my rounds in Hulu Selangor with the AMK of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, namely Md Zaman, Fadzlie and Shahruddin, what I saw was a mess. Surely enough, we had more posts than BN, our posts were manned in comparison to those of BN but our discipline was poor.

If I had a say, I would have appointed a team of co-ordinators with motorcycles (since traffic would inevitably be very heavy) and communicate using their cellphones (walkie talkies are kinda irrelevant now).

These people would be my eyes and ears and would report whether the various posts are low on supplies (posters, handouts etc) and would also report on how BN is faring and what they are doing at the time. These info would prove invaluable and would affect my subsequent mobilisation plan.

Also, lack of pre-election and during-election campaigning contributed to our lacklustre performance. Agents in posts were not proactive enough to go campaigning house to house, flyers were minimally distributed to the vehicles plying the slim roads, and we were seen to be defensive when all current issues were against the main media. Our ceramah were lacking participation and a lack of promotion I guess was the cause.

However, I do not think that the Hulu Selangor people were ignorant. They are VERY clever. They knew that the 13th General Elections are sometime soon, and that they should 'milk the cow' with whatever dairy products that come their way. Even if it means voting BN.

FELDA settlers, mainly those 1st Generation Sellers in Kampung Soeharto, Sungai Tenggi and co, have sold their Palm Oil and Rubber lands to FELDA appointed developers. They were promised anywhere from as low as RM250,000 to RM500,000 for their lands. However until the By-Elections, not 1 sen was paid to them.

BN politicised the issue and decided to pay them an up-front payment of RM50K cash and the rest to follow soon after they win. Other promises were made which smacks of bona fide corruption. PM Najib Razak even went to the extent of saying BN will pay an ex-gratia amount of RM3 million to a Chinese school with the caveat of the people voting and winning BN. The statement was made televised and after BN's win, the amount was paid.

The people of Hulu Selangor are so clever that if BN fails to fulfil their pledges, they will have no qualms about voting in again PKR to serve them in Parliament in the 13 GE soon. FELDA settlers are already sensing blood after many BN promises are left without action.

This sordid and blatantly obvious act of corruption went smoothly without the Electoral Commission's objection and action. But of course we should have anticipated that.

We should have anticipated their dirty game and considered earlier on to use counter-attacks which will blow up in BN's face. Of course BN will use these methods and any other methods so long as they have it in their disposal. But our loss to be blamed on these? it only shows our immaturity in dealing with BN. BN will do the same in Sibu and in the coming 13th GE, that is why we EXIST.

To Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, continue to build on your grassroots support in Hulu Selangor and apply to again contest there in the coming GE. YB Tian Chua lost heavily in Batu but due to his iron will and fervent desire to serve the people of Batu, people built his trust in him after seeing him in action and this Parliamentary constituency will remain with PKR in many more years to come. That I am confident.

As for MIC, you have been handed a lifeline. The senatorship to Palanivel will not douse his anger. Samy Vellu will of course find a way to eliminate this new threat to his office and it will be interesting to see how Palanivel (a reject) will react against his boss.

Do not fret people! though the battle is lost WE WILL WIN THE WAR! As what was mentioned by my leader Anwar Ibrahim, "If not today it will be tomorrow; if not this week the week after that, if not this year its the year after that - LAWAN TETAP LAWAN!!"
