Latest from P44 - Permatang Pauh

Last night I have ben asked to speak to the voters at a 'Ceramah Kelompok' at DUN Penanti, the home of Pulau Pinang's Deputy Chief Minister Fairus Khairuddin. The ambience was fantastic, the atmosphere was electric and I cannot see any vehicle brave enough to sport the Barisan Nasional's flag! not much UMNO!

It would seem that UMNO has failed to breach the stronghold of Penanti, where I was assigned along with all the other Youth of PKR Wilayah Persekutuan. UMNO's 'Bilik Gerakan' is empty, or otherwise looked after by BN workers who thinks it is better for them to sit tight rather than canvass for votes.

In my ceramah I focused on these main points:

1. Ezam's silence on BN's policy of the Internal Security Act, where he was detained for three years. Why don't he heckle Pak Lah or Najib about it? Is he too comfortable now to 'rock the boat' and keep mum on the issue? There are many arguments to put forward against this man but I suggest that Ezam try to rescue his image of being portrayed as a 'betrayer' and 'pengkhianat' himself before trying to attack others. It is like the pot calling the kettle black.

2. The issue of Mubahalah 'Swearing in Allah's name'. I explained that Mubahalah will only be applicable should there be a dearth of evidence in a court of law. When that happens, only then the parties will be called to swear in Allah's name as justice could not be meted out in the court of this world, and Allah SWT will judge the case in the hereafter. If the swearings were the 'due process of the law' then proving one's innocence or proclaiming another's culpability will be so simple, even a convict could 'swear' in a mosque that Khairy has mated with a llama! at the right price of course!

3. I also explained regarding Dato' Seri Anwar's formula in curbing the escalating the price of oil. I reminded the attendees (most came even though the Malaysia Cup Final is underway between Selangor and Kedah) that but for this by-election in Permatang Pauh, there is no way the price of oil would be reduced by 15 sen. In any event, the people in Permatang Pauh feels that a drop of 70 sen is way, way much better than a drop of 15 sen. They see it as being a bait where the oil prices would increase again if BN won.

4. We also welcomed the ex UMNO Bandar Tun Razak Division Vice Head into PKR, Sdr. Nasruddin who mentioned that he has becomed disillusioned with UMNO amidst rife corruption and lack of democracy.

All in all it was an amazing feeling and yet I am sad I could not attend the 'Greatest Political History in Malaysia since Merdeka' when Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim is announced the winner on Tuesday. To all my AMK friends, please celebrate and glorify Allah SWT for his assistance in DSAI's foreseen 23,000 majority win!
